‘Darling Anne’: Letter from my Grandfather to my Grandmother 1936 – 1947

My Grandmother was a formidable woman. You can read about her in my post. She was not somebody you could say no to. As my grandfather, Philip, discovered. Whenever he went away – whether it was to study, work, or fight in the second World War – she insisted he write to her every single day. I was over the moon when my mother gave me this suitcase of letters. I always meant to type them all out but never found the time. With the wonders of Twitter I can now share these wonderful letters from the very first letter written in 1936
